Background designs can make or break a quilt so it’s really important to master this skill. In this class you will learn how the background can complement and accentuate a quilt’s piecing or appliqué. You will play with simple shapes to form effective and consistent patterns which characterise your quilt and add to its appeal.

We will address:

Choosing background designs that reflect the quilt top. Simple motifs and their manipulation to form background designs. Drawing out designs and combining them with others. Demonstration on stitching out designs. Issues of balance within the different quilting styles.
