#216: FUSSY CUTTING IN PAPER PIECING – JULIET VAN DER HEIJDEN

CLASS TYPE: HANDS ON
SKILL LEVEL: ALL
START TIME: FRI 3:30PM

DESCRIPTION:

The effective and accurate use of fussy cuts and directional prints can lead to impactful foundation paper pieced projects, but working out how to gain that accuracy is not always easy. In this technique based class we will look at methods to create accurate fussy cuts and to use fabric in a deliberate way.

In this class you will have the opportunity to sew a simple economy block, a house and/ or a simple bird. We will discuss how a whole new dimension can be added to foundation paper pieced patterns through the careful use of fabrics. Careful fabric choices and placement can add feather texture to birds, give animals an extra twinkle in their eye and add bricks and slates to houses.

STUDENT SUPPLY LIST:

Cutting mat, fabric*, thread, quilting ruler (I like to use an add-a-quarter ruler), pins, rotary cutter, paper scissors, pencil.

*A variety of fabrics comprising of both solids and directional prints – scraps are fine, you will not need more than a fat quarter of any individual fabric.

Optional items: light box, seam roller and wonder clips.
